NCDB, in collaboration with OSEP, is introducing a new way to view the 2008 deaf-blind child count data. In an effort to provide the child count data in a more user-friendly way, graphic map displays of numerous data fields included in the deaf-blind child count are now available.
Click the identified link to see a geographic display of the deaf-blind child count data by state. Data field displays include:
On the graphic maps each of these six data elements are displayed by tabs running horizontally at the top of the page. Within each, individual data can be displayed in more detail by linking to any of the corresponding tabs available and presented vertically on the left side of the page. At the bottom of each vertical tab are links to the "raw data, displayed both by percent and by the actual n for that data field.
One of the many benefits of this type of graphic display is the ability to do some comparisons with other states as well as see how an individual state's data fits into the national picture. These comparisons may provide individual state deaf-blind projects with information that can be used to more deeply explore current service delivery models or specific project focus areas.
Please note, this is a work in progress. NCDB will continue to work with OSEP in providing these data in improved ways. Improvements will be based on feedback received so please share your comments and suggestions with the Webmaster.
NCDB also will be scheduling a webinar in which an overview of these new displays will be covered, in addition to providing suggestions for use and application of these data.
