National Personnel Development Activities

Addressing National Needs

NCDB Personnel Training Focus Group

To assist in meeting the need to plan and implement collaborative personnel development activities, NCDB facilitated a focus group made up of representatives from educational institutions offering advanced coursework or degrees in deaf-blind education.

NCDB Personnel Development Workgroup

The focus group outlined several proposals for action and NCDB facilitated the development of the NCDB Personnel Development Workgroup. The group met through 2009.

Extending a Legacy: Helen Keller Fellows

This four year grant project offers an opportunity for select graduate students in Special Education to receive training and practice opportunities in the field of deaf-blindness. It is a collaborative effort to increase the number of personnel fully credentialed to work with children who are deaf-blind by creating a cadre of highly qualified "teacher leaders." For complete information about the program and application procedures and deadlines, visit http://www.helenkellerfellows.org

The National Intervener Task Force

The National Intervener Task Force, formed in January of 2002, is an informal network comprised of a variety of individuals representing state/multi-state deafblind projects, higher education institutions, agencies, and parents. The focus of the Task Force has been to develop a consistent understanding of issues and services related to the training and use of interveners in educational settings and early intervention settings.
