NCDB HIGHLIGHTS

Southeast Regional Family and Teen Workshop

NCDB collaborated with seven state deaf-blind projects, Helen Keller National Center, American Association of the Deaf-Blind and PepNet, to host a family and teen weekend workshop. Twenty young adults, each exploring options for college or employment, attended along with their families. Many of the presentations were provided by mentors who, as young adults, had attended previous workshops. The presentations covered important events such as the Washington D.C. policies and advocacy learning experience that culminated in the meeting in the Oval Office with President Obama, a report from the U.S delegation to the international deaf-blindness conference in Uganda and an account of a trip to a village in Costa Rica where delegates were able to meet and interact with children who had sensory loss. The workshop was well supported by Support Service Providers (SSP's) from interpreting programs and the Rotary Camp Florida assisted the Florida Outreach project in providing lodging and meeting space.
