HKNC E-Learning Opportunities for Families and Support Providers

HKNC is offering access to their online courses free of charge to families and service providers. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are offered with many of our courses. Contact your HKNC regional representative or email if you are interested in any of the available classes.

The courses below may be of particular interest to families. 

  • The Top 5 Keys to Successful Transition for Deaf-Blind Youths
    This course is geared towards family members who are interested in supporting their school aged deaf-blind children prepare for the transition process into adult services, higher education and the world of work. The course is presented by Debbie Fiderer, the Coordinator of the Community Services Program in NY. 
  • Inclusive Communication
    This class on Inclusive Communication provides an overview of alternate communication strategies and systems for individuals who are deaf-blind with intellectual disabilities. These strategies and tools include object symbols, schedule books, communication cards, picture cues, and basic tactile sign language. 
  • Personal Futures Planning
    This class provides an overview of Personal Futures Planning and how to apply this technique with individuals who are deaf-blind with intellectual disabilities. The process of discovering opportunities and capacities for the focus person is discussed.
