Virtual Summer Youth Vocational Program
June 08-August 28, 2020
- Helen Keller National Center
In response to COVDI-19, HKNC is now offering this learning opportunity virtually.
Session I: June 8, 2020 -July 17, 2020
Session II: July 20, 2020-August 28, 2020
Program Cost: $625/week
The six-week Virtual SYVP will offer opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in the following areas: Vocational Exploration, Self-Determination, Advocacy, Communication Methods, Worksite Orientation & Mobility, Assistive Aids & Devices, and Interviewing & Employment Skills. Participants will gain self-awareness through the process of gathering information about their interests, abilities, and values. They will explore the “world of work” through the distribution of information of a variety of career options and associated criteria. As a result of their discoveries through self-awareness and “world of work”, participants will narrow potential career options supported by informed decision-making.
Participants will virtually join peers ages 16-22 from around the country for this innovative six- week experience. Prior to the beginning of the program, HKNC staff will assess technology available to the participant to determine the best instruction modality that would insure full access to information and instruction. Instruction may be provided by telephone; iPhone; iPad, e-mail; computer; videophone; FaceTime; Zoom meetings and/or Google Classroom.
