Project TSDBOT Funded

Dr. Sarah Ivy (PI) and Dr. Lori Richards (co-PI) were awarded $1,000,000 for Project TSDBOT: Special Education Teachers with Endorsement in Deafblindness and Occupational Therapists Collaborating through an Interdisciplinary Program to Improve Services from the United States Department of Education. (CFDA 84.325K: Focus Area B).

The Project Development Team includes Dr. Chris Bischke and Dr. Sondra Stegenga from the Department of Special Education and Dr. Sarah Gray from the Department of Occupational and Recreational Therapies in the College of Health at the University of Utah, and Dr. Susan Bruce from Boston College. The purpose of this proposed 5-year project is to improve the quality and increase the number of highly qualified personnel prepared to serve school-age learners with deafblindness through interdisciplinary teams.

The project will support and prepare 28 master’s level scholars at the University of Utah (U of U), 16 special education teachers with an endorsement in deafblindness (TSDBs) and 12 occupational therapists (OTs), who by the end of their respective programs have demonstrated the national professional competencies in their discipline and additional project competencies related to interdisciplinary teaming. Emphasis will be placed on preparing these professionals to provide specialized services to the diverse population of students with deafblindness and their families.
