Supporting Communicative Competence Professional Learning Series
The Ohio Center for Deafblind Education (OCDBE) is offering a 7-part professional learning series on supporting communicative competence, from September 18, 2025 to April 16, 2026 (4:00 to 5:15 p.m. ET). It's designed to equip participants with the tools they need to support children with combined hearing-vision loss, sensory impairment, and/or multiple disabilities.
Over seven one-hour virtual sessions, the presenters—Jacqueline Kearns, EdD and Judy Page, PhD, CCC-SLP—will cover key topics, including:
- Using core and fringe vocabulary
- Developing peer and communication partner strategies
- Fostering social networks
- Preparing students with complex communication needs for transition
Special and general preschool and school-age educators, related services personnel (e.g., speech language pathologists), paraprofessionals, administrators, parents, and others are invited to attend.
